Maqui is a perennial shrub native to South America that grows in dense bushes from 3m to 5m in height and reaches maturity between December and March.
It is a dioecious plant that belongs to the Elaeocarpaceae family and produces a small dark violet edible fruit.
Maqui Berries are about 6 mm in diameter, and are consumed fresh or used in juices, jams or winemaking.
Maqui Berries are more properly native to the region of Chilean Patagonia and Argentina, one of the least polluted areas on the planet.
Recently rediscovered, the Baga Maqui is known as the super fruit of the Mapuche who revered it as a symbol of strength, health and vitality. The Mapuche Indian tribe is the only tribe in the Americas (northern and southern) that has not been conquered by European countries.
